I got a request to make some Star Wars cookies for an old friend’s daughter’s birthday party and it made me so excited! Don’t get me wrong, I could make adorably girly cookies all day long, but when I get the opportunity to create treats that are a little different, I always jump on the chance.
Since my collection of cutters didn’t include any Star Wars specifics, I had to get creative with how to execute them and still make them extra cute! I decided to use all round cutters that were about 3 to 4 inches in diameter and focus on the character faces. My wonderful sister used her trusty sugar cookie recipe that makes the perfect consistency dough that holds it’s shape when baked. We used a total of 6 colors of royal icing that we strategically chose to work for multiple characters – C3PO, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, R2D2, a Storm Tropper, and Chewbacca.
For these characters, we needed black, white, brown, blue, and a golden yellow that had a touch of brown added in so that it could work for the gold of C3PO but also for Princess Leia’s skin. We used size 2 piping tips for the outlines and detailing icing, and size 5 tips for the flood icing. We finished off R2D2 with cinnamon red hot candies and used an edible marker for the tiny details on C3PO and Princess Leia. We ended up making just a couple galaxy cookies too with the less than perfect cookies just for funsies 🙂 In the end we were so happy with the way that they turned out and they were a huge hit at the party! It just goes to show that you don’t always need to buy pricey new cookie cutters to get the themed cookie you want! Oh and I forgot the mention that they were delicious too!
