A friend of my Mom’s was getting rid of a wooden bench swing that just needed a little TLC. I was so surprised by how simple it was to breathe new life into this little bench! I started by buying some new chain and chain links so that I could hang it from my patio over hang. Next, I tightened all of the nuts and bolts holding it together that had gotten a little loose over time. I sat on my green outdoor footstool while I brushed on two coats of PolyShades all the way around the bench. If you haven’t used it before, PolyShades is pretty awesome stuff because it turns staining and sealing into one step! Word of warning though, it can be tricky to work with because as it starts to dry, it gets sticky and difficult to spread out, which can leave you with unsightly streaks if you’re not careful. The best way that I have found to apply it is to be liberal when loading it onto your brush, and work quickly to spread it out from edge to edge. After my two coats were completely dry, I threw a couple old outdoor pillows from Target on each side and I was done! I don’t know about you guys, but to me, it looks like a brand new bench swing! Amazing what a difference you can make in just a couple hours!
